Things to do in Taupo & on the Houseboat
Take a relaxing cruise on board the "Explorer" houseboat and absorb the natural beauty surrounding Lake Taupo.
Stunning vistas of snowy mountains, Maori rock carvings and areas of thermal activity are just a few of the wonders Lake Taupo has to offer, and with approximately 616 sq. kilometres to explore you will not get bored!
Fishing
"Explorer" is the ideal, sturdy boat for fishing in one of the best trout fishing areas of New Zealand. Fish for large rainbow or brown trout to be cooked up on your BBQ for dinner!
There is some fishing gear on board, including electric down rigger, however the serious angler may prefer to bring their own.
You will need to purchase a fishing licence from any of the
local service stations beforehand.

Kayaking
You have the use of a kayak and dinghy for access to and from the boat while it is on it's mooring.
The kayak can be taken on board "Explorer" and stowed on the top deck for your recreational use while out on the lake. Get away on your own for a peaceful time with nature!
Swimming
After a relaxing time sunbathing on the deck, cool down by diving in to the crystal clear water of Lake Taupo. Perhaps you will spot your dinner swimming by you while you snorkel! There are plenty of safe swimming spots to choose from for the kids.
BBQ
After a days exploring and fishing in the fresh air on Lake Taupo you will have worked up an appetite. Cook your 'just caught' trout on the BBQ at the back of the boat and enjoy! Pure New Zealand lamb and beef are an excellent option for meat lovers.
